Saddad's Bookshelf

Manal AlDowayan

In this unique silver gelatin handprint, Manal AlDowayan presents an image that was taken in 2012, while developing her collection If I Forget You, Don't Forget Me. This photograph was never included in the final collection and instead it is being presented in a new format for the first time, as an unveiling of one more story to be told; the story of Sadad's Bookshelf :⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sadad, a geologist in the oil industry, traveled across the Kingdom exploring sites and collecting core samples. During his travels, he accumulated many artifacts including an assortment of beautiful maps and photographs. But his rock collection was what received the most attention from him. There were rocks and core samples in every nook, shelf and corner in his house. You know by the location selected for that rock, the story that comes with it. In Saddad's Bookshelf Manal documents the journey of the oil men and women, one generation before her, who came from different facets of life and met each other at a single point where they took off to the future together.⠀⠀

    [text_es] =>
If I Forget You, Don't Forget Me".
