The Estate of Chant Avedissian

‘Stencil B’ brings together several of the themes of the well-known series that helped turn Avedissian’s career: ‘Cairo Stencils’. Five icons that revive together on corrugated cardboard and that, each on its own merits, interested the artist. As the anticolonialist and philosopher Jamal Al-Din Al-Afghani, who holds the honor of being the only non-contemporary of those portrayed, followed by the immortal diva Om Kulthoum; the eternal rebel Che Guevara, the actress and sex symbol Hind Rostom and, Finally, the infamous thief Mohammed Fahmy Al-Darestawy.
