PUFF OUT in Metropolis (RTVE)

The Spanish television program Metrópolis shows the initiative of :mentalKLINIK and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade: PUFF OUT, an installation broadcasted online during quarantine times.

PUFF OUT at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Belgrade

PUFF OUT is a Bitter Medicine to museums under lockdown, initiated by the artist duo :mentalKLINIK and curated by Carl De Smet for the Museum of Contemporary Art of Belgrade as the first host. As we are now more online than ever, :mentalKLINIK offers us a bitter pill to fill the abysmal void of the emptied-out, shuttered museums. PUFF OUT installation is made to be physically set in the premises of the museum, but extended onto digital platforms. View video.

The pair currently live and work in Brussels. Shows in Brussels, Vienna and Belgrade exhibit their new and previous artworks, which focus on different themes around technology, social media, internet, codes, attention, economy, psychology and how perceptions of happiness change in the world.

Watch :mentalKLINIKs installation PuFF

Turkish artist duo :mentalKLINIK's installation PuFF reminds of a boxing ring with little black robots fighting against each other and the glitter that is sprayed on the floor of the ring. PuFF attempts to create an unidentified space, an indecisive zone of repetition replete with the absurdity of a floor, which is continually filled with glitter only so that it can be continually vacuumed.

Once again, the duo tries to find a new approach to a postmodern question. The works in the exhibition reflect on the essence of truth, meanwhile making the viewer contemplate whether they are true or not. This time, mentalKLINIK plays with the ambiguity of truth and how this changes reality and surroundings.

Truish

How can art lie when the reality is not true enough? :mentalKLINIK’s solo exhibition in Dubai 'Truish' not only presents an ambiguous scenario, but also asks a pertinent question: What is the truth? How does one gauge the truthiness of something? What you see in this exhibition is perhaps true – or maybe not, and this ambiguity becomes the fuel to question our reality and surroundings.
